So the household Westie, Zoe, is 4 months old now and very short. She is a terrier and like most terriers possesses a high prey drive. This means she likes to chase things that are living and edible. I took on the task of assisting Zoe with understanding she is not to eat the Household parrots. Two weeks ago Zoe was introduced to the House Female African Grey, Daisy. They met on common “ground”, so to speak, the floor (Daisy prefers walking on the floor to flight-based forms of transportation). In short order Daisy administered a sharp bite to Zoe’s moist little curious thrusting black nose. This decisive move left a little scratch on said nose and startled the pup into a fast reverse.

So the pup knows Grey Parrots are dangerous. Perhaps. But she did not generalize.

Today the Englishman called with the news that feisty Zoe was caught about to nibble away the viscera of a freshly dispatched house sparrow. How does a 7 inch tall short-legged white fuzzy terrier take down a nimble, fleet, presumably healthy zippy sparrow on a PORCH?

There were no witnesses, so only Zoe knows. And she will not say. But I personally think she decided to take out her frustration on a lesser avian life form. Birds of Massachusetts, beware.
